Rune Walsh

Rune is a powerhouse of a magic user, and one of the most memorable characters in the game. He has a mysterious past that slowly unravels as the story progresses, leading to a major reveal near the end. He brings some of the strongest Techniques in the game, making him a go-to for magical offense. However, his physical defense is terrible. You’re better off equipping him with two shields to keep him alive longer.

Rune first joins your party early in the game, just in time to help out with a major boss fight. Sadly, he leaves shortly after, which always feels like a letdown. Fortunately, he rejoins later on. This time he sticks around for much longer, becoming a key part of your team.

Rune’s skills scale with his Mental stat, and most of them either deal heavy damage or instantly kill enemies. Three of his skills are spiritual successors to Lutz’s magic from the original Phantasy Star. Unlike some other characters, Rune can use all of his skills regardless of the weapon he’s holding.
