TORRENT SITES

"Q: 'Torrent sites'? What are those?" You can download practically anything from a torrent website. Go here to learn more about it. The torrent program that most people seem to prefer is Azureus. Note that all these sites have pop-ups and are rather fishy. I would advise browsing them with Firefox, as Internet Explorer tends to be too susceptible to spyware and such.

Amazon - One of the cheapest/best places online to purchase new anime DVDs.

Best Buy - Sometimes they're cheaper than Amazon.

Anime Castle - A semi good place to purchase new anime DVDs.

Anime Nation - This is probably one of the most popular online anime stores. Their selection of merchandise is vast and virtually complete. However, their prices are ridiculous.

eBay - On a budget? Getting used stuff through online auctions is the best way to buy anime merchandise for the cheapest price possible.
Half.com - eBay's other site. Sometimes they have cheaper stuff than eBay.

EMULATION/ROMs

To make description-reading easier for you, sites with a have ROMs for every 8-bit/16-bit video game system. That includes NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, Game Gear, Sega Master System, etc.

Zophar's Domain - This place is no longer good for getting the latest emulators, but it's still a great place for related goodies like music (SPC, PSF, GYM, GBS, etc.), emulator save states, ZSNES CHT files, and more!

EmuRussia - My favorite ROM site. ^_^ No ads, no pop-ups, no hassle!

Shady Roms - No ads, no pop-ups, no hassle! They also have GBA along with all the retro systems like Atari and Coleco.

RomNation, Rom Hustler - Including Sega CD, N64, and arcade. There are tons of ads, too.

EmuAsylum - Including arcade, Sega CD, TurboGrafx16-CD, and Saturn, but you need to pay a fee in order to gain access to the CD-based games.

SnesOrama - They have PSX, Sega CD, TurboGrafx16, TurboGrafx16-CD, N64, and SNES.

DGEmu.com - Including N64 and GBA.

Romulation.net - Including GBA, NDS, N64, PSX, and PSP.

ROM-World - They make you vote for them in some top site list before you download.

isoHunt - (has pop-ups) You can download complete sets of ROMs from most systems here. They even have quite a bit of PSX, Sega CD and Saturn games, perhaps even recent stuff. Type a video game system in the search to bring up all they have for it.

EuroEmu.net - (has pop-ups) Including N64, Atari Jaguar, Philips CD-i, Saturn and Sega CD. The majority of their content is downloadable via BitTorrent archives.

Planet Emulation - It's a foreign site; they include a great collection of large arcade ROMs.

GamerZ Paradise - (has pop-ups) Including GBA, N64, and PSX.

Cool ROM - (has pop-ups) They have arcade, Sega CD, Saturn, and N64.

EmuParadise - Including Sega CD, PSX and GBA. Downloads are painstakingly slow, along with tons of pop-up ads.

Gameboy Advance ROMs - They have a virtually complete collection of GBA ROMs.

Flying Omelette's Kitchen - Go here for excellent reviews on classic games and other interesting game-related stuff. ^_^ This place is also home to a massive cameos database.

Hardcore Gaming 101 - As the name implies, hardcore gaming has extensive reviews covering games of every genre and era. What's most interest about this site is that the majority of its review sections covers the entire game series.

NES Horsemen - The NES reviews in this place are quite humorous. They have other stuff too like movie reviews and MP3 downloads of arcade music.

Deathamster's Nest - In addition to great game reviews, they also also have original sections, like game bloopers, game ideas, game humor, nonsense shrine, and more.

CodieKitty.com - (also has NES & Genesis content) Dedicated to providing reviews and various other interesting stuff.

NES Player - This place is neato! He designed each game section like if it was a separate website, like me. :)

NES Retreat - This place is pretty cool; it's a similar style of Flying Omelette's site.

RoyalRanger's NES Site - This place is great! It has lots of media and various other goodies.

SEGA LEGACY

Eidolon's Inn - This excellent website is the father of Sega fandom on the net - it's been around since 1997! The site has anything and everything about every Sega system! However, at the moment, most of their legendary sections are not up on the site. You see, Eidolon's Inn was forced to shut down some time ago. They've just recently come back online and now they're working on a massive remodeling. Bit by bit, what made Eidolon's Inn glorious will return.

SegaXtreme - They have tons of goodies: utilities, Dreamcast & Saturn development, soundtracks, fan fictions, manuals, cd artwork, game endings, game reviews, wallpapers, game endings, release lists, and more!

Romhacking.net - This is the #1 translation news site! They're the most up-to-date with all the juicy translation news out there.

RPGONE - They're working on Dragon Warrior 1 & 2, Dragon Warrior 3, Slayers RPG, the FF6 Retranslation, and more!

Aeon Genesis Translation Proclamation - This is the domain of the almighty Gideon Zhi! He's one of the most active rom hackers in the translation scene.

Translation Corporation - These are the people who translated Dual Orb 2! Now they're working on Emerald Dragon, WOZZ, and others.

Yunin No Translators - They're working on Arabian Knights!

Magic Destiny - This group has been around for a while. They're translating a nice collection of games.

Stealth Translations - This group is probably most famous for their Feda: The Emblem of Justice translation. They're also working on the Fire Emblem 5 translation!

DeJap Translations - These are the legendary people behind the translations for Tales of Phantasia, Bahamut Lagoon and Star Ocean. But the group is pretty much dead now; all good things come to an end. Besides fine-tuning Star Ocean, don't expect anything more from them. :(

Icy Brian's RPG Page - This website is beyond excellent. It's been around since '97! Unlike all those other fancy smansy RPG sites, Icy Brian's page has a strong fan base. It's probably most well known for its massive archives of quality fan fics and fan art. There's also game reviews, an IRC chat, forums, and more!

Home of Classic Role Playing Games - Wolfgang's game sections are very detailed and full of eye candy. He covers everything Shining Force, everything Phantasy Star, everything Lunar, and other great RPGs.

Square Haven, RPGamer, RPGFan, RPG Classics - Excellent sites dedicated to reviewing RPGs of all kinds.

Final Fantasy Shrine, Eyes on Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Extreme - Excellent sites dedicated to reviewing every Final Fantasy.

VideoLAN - The best media player! It can play almost any audio and video format! Literally! If you like to download movies, VLC can play directly from DVD video files. It even has support for those obscure video plug-ins that many fansubbers use.

7-Zip - Open source file compression software, supporting popular formats like ZIP, RAR, ISO, TAR, and more. It's the 'core' program supporting the 7z format, which popular opinion says is the #1 file compression format.

GIMP - Open source image editor that is very similar to Adobe Photoshop.

Blender - Open source 3D modeling/3D animation software. I have helpful tutorial links in the 3D Resources category.

Nvu - Open source HTML editor/page builder that is similar to Adobe Dreamweaver.

Scribus - Open source desktop publisher that is similar to Adobe Indesign and MS Publisher.

Inkscape - Open source vector graphics software that is very similar to Adobe Illustrator.

Jashaka - Open source video editing and special effects, similar to Adobe After Effects.

Audacity - Open source sound editor and sound recorder.

Open Office - Open source equivalent to Microsoft Office.

Belief - An excellent site to go to for philosophy on imagination, creativity and originality. Well, you sort of need to dig into the site to find that particular section, because it's mainly a company site (ad agency).

Compfused - They have the most hilarious collection of movie clips! And pop-up ads!

Albino Blacksheep - Another popular website with flash cartoons.

Homestar Runner - Here you'll find tons of hilarious flash cartoons based off a fan-made cartoon series called Homestar Runner. There's also some spin-off cartoons Teen Girl Squad and Trogdor. The whole site was put together in flash, it's quite impressive. You should check it out if you haven't already.

Kontraband.com - In addition to having a great collection of hilarious flash cartoons, they also have tons of other humorous material.

YouTube - An extremely popular site where people put up movie clips for everyone to enjoy. People put up all sorts of things like video game clips, obscure TV shows, humor clips, and more. You can upload movies to it as well; it's free.
