TURBO DUO

• You need a TruboGrafx16/Turbo Duo emulator in order to play these games. You can download it from my stie right here!
• "CD" means it's a Super CD game (they're just regular TG16 games with CD audio tracks as the only exception) and "CD2" means it's a Super CD2 game (they're spiced up Super CD games, almost up to the quality of SNES). Also, the best TG16 emulator to use is MagicEngine.

Ai Cho Aniki (J) (Super CD2)

Translation = Love Super Big Brother. This game is one BIZARRE shooter. It's jam-packed full of ambiguously gay muscle men. You control a muscle guy who shoots a ball of energy when he flexes his biceps. His second attack (which is executed by a short button sequence) has him tossing faerie dust at the enemy. As you can see with the screen shots, the enemies are made up mostly of muscle men. This game is just so hilarious. XD The soundtrack is pretty good too.

SCREEN SHOTS

Air Zonk

This shooter is a spin-off of the Bonk's series. It's another one of those "silly shooters" like Parodius. There's a handful of nifty little weapon upgrades that you pick up. Before each stage, you get to choose a "friend". These things come to your aid during a stage whenever you touch a giant evil happy face. If you touch another giant evil happy face then you combine with your friend to turn temporarily invincible and be shooting a special weapon (themed to the friend) at the same time. This is the most cartoony TurboGrafx16 game I've played so far! It's pretty good.

Blazing Lasers

This game has a striking resemblance to Space Megaforce for the SNES. Since this game is older, perhaps Space Megaforce is the one who copied. Anyway, my opinion on this game is the same as with Space Megaforce. There are like a billion levels, which tend to get a bit repetitive after a while. Weapon power-ups are constantly being tossed at you by the enemies. There are several different types of power-ups and several different strengths, so there's tons of possible weapon combinations. You can get stuff like electricity blasts, lasers that do crazy things, missiles, rotating spheres, little orbs that help you shoot the enemy, etc. My only complaint is the music.

Bonk's Adventure

Lol, Bonk! The "Mario" of the TurboGrafx16. Bonk bashes away enemies to kingdom come with his trusty super thick skull. He can pick up various meats which grant him stronger attacks and a meaner face.

Bonk's Revenge

Bonk part 2. Typical sequel stuff; better graphics and animation. Besides new stages and bosses, nothing much is new.

SCREEN SHOTSDOWNLOAD

Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure

Bonk part 3. Typical sequel stuff; better graphics and animation. There are also some new features! Some items make Bonk a giant or shrink down to the size of a mouse. Sometimes you need to be really big or really small to pass through certain parts of stages.

Cadash

I LOVE CADASH!! It's probably considered one of the best games for the TurboGrafx16. It was the first games to be translated by Working Designs. You get to choose one of four characters: a swordsman, a mage, a priest, or a ninja. The swordsman slashes away with his sword and has the highest defense because of the simple fact that he can equip armor. The mage has a whopping collection of eight attack magic spells (starts out with one but learns the rest as he gains levels); his weapon is a wimpy little staff. The priest is my favorite!! She has a couple healing spells and learns a (temporary) invincibility spell towards the end of the game; her weapon is a nifty extending mace. The ninja just tosses ninja stars.

Castlevania Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (J) (Super CD2)

Ah, the famous Dracula X for the PC-Engine Super CD2. Every devoted Castlevania fan yearns to have this game in their possession. Some would even kill or sell their body in order to get their hands on a copy. Those who have played it say it's one of the best Castlevania titles ever made. I think it's real nifty! It's definitely like 50 times better than the SNES version of Dracula X. The special attacks are actually special! I mean, they're awesome!! Like, in SNES Dracula X, the super crucifix attack just tosses around lots of crucifixes (boooring). In this TG16-CD version, the super crucifix attack calls forth several gigantic crosses that shoot up from the ground. The most interesting feature is that you can play as a little girl, Maria (if you manage to save her in the second stage). Maria's arsenal of special weapons consists of various animals and a dragon. The game is easier with her because those animals are more efficient than Belmont's regular weapons, and she has a double jump. And this is the only CD game here that I have for download. The Download link below leads to my Classic CD RPGs subsite; I added Dracula X as a bonus download.

Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams (Super CD2)

I like this one much better than Cotton 100% for SNES. The sequences between stages have several little cute animations. Your weapon power upgrades as you can experience. Your special (limited) super weapons include a bolt of lightning and a fire dragon. It's pretty much your basic TG16-CD shooter, nothing all that spectacular about it. It's a worthwhile play if you're into silly shooters.

Dragon Spirit

This game brings back memories! Back in the glory days of the NES, one of my first games was Dragon Spirit. I had no idea that it was also released for the TurboGrafx16. And this version is quite different! The graphics are much better and the stages are totally different. But as for the music, I think the NES version still has it better. Dragon Spirit is a shooter that allows you to control a dragon instead of a spaceship. The dragon can power up to shoot stronger bursts of flame. It can even grow up to three heads!

Dragon Saber (Dragon Spirit 2)

My childhood favorite shooter has a sequel!!!! It was hard to believe, but it's true. I'm still in shock to this day. The graphics of this title made me shit a brick! IT'S SO COOL!!! The fire system (rather than calling it weapon system) had improved and even has a new feature. If you wait a short moment then your fire "charges up" for a powerful blast when you attack. These charged up attacks are upgraded as you upgrade your fire. The strongest charge attack takes the form of a large dragon made of blue fire! (as shown in the screens) NOW HOW COOL IS THAT?! Oh my god. Now I can die a happy man knowing I've played a sequel to Dragon Spirit.

Legend of Hero Tonma

This game is cute. ^.^ You control a chibi guy who tosses magical blasts of fire. His power upgrades as you pick up items. The music is so beautifully ghetto. These screens shots are quite wide because Legend of Hero Tonma is a port from the arcade version. ;D

Lords of Thunder (Super CD2)

This is a really fun shooter! The graphics are awesome! Heh, this was the TurboGrafx16's flagship game. One of their advertising campaigns heavily promoted this game, saying stuff like "OMG if you buy TG16 you get to play awesome games like this!!1!" You get to choose different suites, each have weapons focusing on a specific element (i.e. fire, water, wind). You collect money so you can buy various upgrades and shields between stages.

SCREEN SHOTS

Magical Chase

This game is so cute! It's such a bite off of Cotton, though. Like Cotton, you control a witch on a flying broom. The only items you pick up are coins. You can use them to purchase upgrades at the stores you come across during stages. There are two stars that hover around you wherever you go; they act as shields. You can have the stars in a fixed position or have them move around to whatever direction you're going. The music is good too!

Military Madness

It's "Advance Wars" for Game Boy Advance! Heh actually, it's a game very much similar to it. I'm pretty sure Nintendo was the one who leeched all the ideas from this game since it came out first. I think Military Madness is more like a puzzle rather than a strategy game. You're given a certain amount/variety of troops and you need to somehow defeat the enemy army with them. Your units can regain lost HP by staying inside a factory. But be careful! If that factory is taken by the enemy then the unit(s) you have inside become theirs. I find this game strangely entertaining. The music is pretty good too. It's such the stereotype of classic game music.

Neutopia

Zelda fans rejoice! Neutopia is a spiced-up imitation of Zelda 1. But don't get the wrong idea, just because it's a carbon copy doesn't mean it's a bad game, it's actually quite good. I would recommend it to fans of the genre.

Neutopia 2

And here is a sequel to the spiced-up imitation of Zelda 1. In this one you get to (gasps) move and attack diagonally. It's twice as long as Neutopia 1 and visually more appealing.

Ninja Spirit

NINJA SPIRIT RULES!!!!1!!1! This is one of my most favorite TurboGrafx16 games! It's incredibly entertaining, and the graphics are amazing. You control a ninja who has several different types of weapons as his expense. Each weapon can be upgraded as you pick up items. My favorite weapon is the sword!! The coolest part of Ninja Spirit are the invincible clones that follow you around and do exactly what you're doing. This game can be so easy if you properly control those clones to attack in dangerous areas for you. These screens shots are quite wide because Ninja Spirit is a port from the arcade version.

Paranoia

This is one bizarre shooter. I love the weapon system; my favorite one is the rotating electricity orbs. I wish I could say more about this game, but there really isn't much else to say. =P My screenies explain it all.

Sapphire (J) (Super CD2)

Sapphire is probably the most popular shooter for this system. If you intend to purchase it, get ready to be paying a couple hundred! Unlike all the other games I've played, this one has cgi-based 2D graphics. It's neato! Just look at the screenies. The animation is so beautiful and fluid-like. You get to choose one of four ships, each equipped with their own unique weapons and super kawai anime girl as the pilot.

SCREEN SHOTS

Soldier Blade

SOLDIER BLADE RULES!!!!!! This is one of my most favorite TurboGrafx16 shooters!! The graphics make me piss in my pants!! The weapon system is GREAT!!! There's this awesome little mecha dude that helps you fight! There are three types of weapons: a green wave, red bullets, and electricity. Each have a couple upgrades and each have their own super attack. If you use the super attack then you loose that weapon. You can hold up to 2 back-up weapons which automatically activate when you lose your main weapon. Getting hit also results in losing your main weapon.

Splatterhouse

Splatterhouse! This is one of the first games to have blood and R-rated violence. Concerned parents didn't even notice since the TurboGrafx16 was so unpopular. =P It took Mortal Kombat to make them scream and holler. Anyway, Splatterhouse is your basic punch and jump game. That's pretty much all you do. Smash enemies and jump over obstacles. Quite repetitive if you ask me. But I still like it because it's interesting to experience such a spooky atmosphere and bloody violence in a classic title. The main character is a bite off of Jason. =P I'm not sure why but I find the sound effects so hilarious, I especially love the squeal that guy makes when he dies. GWAWAWARRRROOUUUU! Splatterhouse part 2 and 3 came out for the Genesis. Both of them have cool graphics! Part 2 still has the typical punching and jumping, but part 3 breaks the simplistic barrier with a street fighting style.

Spriggan (J) (Super CD2)

Another typical awesome shooter. Like Blazing Lasers, there's tons of different weapons you can pick up, which can be upgraded to even better, cooler weapons through power-ups.

Valis 2 (Super CD)

Ah, Valis. Part 1 came out for the Genesis. Though the Valis series has little support on the net, every devoted gaming fan has heard of it and loves it. Valis games are typical platformers. You control a woman with a blade, and gain various weapon power-ups throughout stages. What makes Valis games so neato is the animated sequences in-between stages. Of course, only the Valis titles that came out for the TurboGrafx16-CD are the ones, which have these neato sequences. The Valis titles that came out for the Genesis and SNES have didly squat.

Valis 4 (J) (Super CD2)

Vali 4 is probably the best of the series. The SNES version sucks so bad compared to this one. This version has more than one playable character, 'super' attacks, and better stage layouts. Plus it's uncut. Ah, but its only drawback is that it was only released in Japan. :\ Well, as a platformer it's fully playable, just that you'll have no idea what everyone is saying during the awesome animated sequences.

Vasteel (Super CD)

Vasteel is one of Working Design's TG16-CD games. ^_^ When I first played this game, I was like, "Eww! It's grid-style war strategy game." But my views changed as I gave it a chance. There are animated sequences before each map battle, they're all somewhat long and kinda boring since they're pretty much just a couple images with moving lips as the only animation. You start out a map battle with handful of units and a salary. You need to use your income and your factories to build up the rest of your army. Your army consists of various mechanical armor (or mecha's, robots, wanzers, Gundams, whatever you want to call them). Each one has their own strengths and weaknesses. When you encounter an enemy unit you enter a real-time battle sequence with them. These battles are actually quite difficult. However, hiding behind objects makes battles ridiculously easy. If you hide quickly and find that perfect aim, then you can destroy the enemy without taking any damage. Your main goal is to capture the enemy factories (there's no main base). The only thing I HATE about Vasteel is the background song. I swear, it's a stereotypical elevator song. Just imagine how annoying that is to hear it non-stop during a map battle, which takes an hour or two to beat. The only thing that saves you from this madness is the cool song you hear during an enemy encounter.
