Content Questions

Q: What is FantasyAnime? What's the aim with its authors? Why would I want to come back?

A: FantasyAnime is by one person. Its mission is to cover select anime, select RPGs, and a few related things on the side. As for reasons to come back, the site does get updated. You can check that out in the 'Site News' section. I'm constantly adding new things, and improving the existing sections.

Q: What are FantasyAnime's browser/computer requirements?

A: I test my coded pages on the three most popular browsers: IE, Firefox, and Opera, and on 1024x768 resolution. Doing so makes my site pretty much compatible with any other browser. I keep my content within a width of 760 pixels, so it should also appear fine on 800x600 resolution.
• Flash: You need at least Flash Player 7 to view my Flash animations. You need at least Flash Player 8 to view my Flash video; get it here. I would say the Flash video needs at least a P3 800 Mhz processor and 192 MB of RAM to run efficiently.

Q: How come your site doesn't have *name of anime* ?
Q: How come you don't cover *name of RPG* ?

A: I'm only one person. >_< I can only do so much in my spare time.

Back to top

Q: Are you going to add more anime sections?

A: I'm still a very big fan of anime, with a rather large collection too, but for quite a long while I haven't had enthusiasm to add new anime sections. I definitely intend to, but I don't know when.

Back to top

Q: Are you going to add more RPG sections? Which RPGs?

A: Yup. :) Right now my thing is to cover fan translated RPGs (mainly SNES) since the internet has virtually no coverage on them. I would cover other popular RPGs or recent RPGs, but there's already plenty of coverage on them elsewhere.

Q: I found a broken link on your page.
Q: I found a typo.
Q: Some of your information is incorrect.

A: Please e-mail me and let me know! Having such a large website, I'm not able to catch every single discrepancy.

Q: Where did you get your anime screen shots?

A: I captured all of them myself. ^_^

Back to top

Q: How did you capture your anime screen shots?

A: The shots from US-released anime were captured from their DVDs via WinDVD. The shots from non-US-licensed anime were captured from movie clips via Frame Shots.

Q: Where did you get your midi music?

A: Video Game Music

Back to top

Q: Where did you get your SPC/GYM/GBS/PSF music?

A: Zophar's Domain

Back to top

Q: Is there a way I can convert SPC/GYM/GBS/PSF to MP3?

A: Yes. WinAmp has a WAV conversion feature. This place has directions - look for "How to convert MP3 to WAV with Winamp 5". For everything except PSF, you will need a WAV editor to properly end the songs because WinAmp has all of them set to the same default time. Then you need a program like WinLame to convert the WAVs to MP3. You can find a free WAV editor here.

Q: Thank you for translating these awesome games! :)
Q: Can you translate *name of Japanese RPG* for me?

A: Um, I don't translate games. ^^; I just cover them. Read the 'History' portion of my 'About' pages to learn of the people who translated the Japanese RPGs I've covered.

Q: Where can I purchase the SNES carts for the US-released RPGs?

A: Half.com and eBay are two good places. Check them both because sometimes one or the other offers the cheapest price. If you want to know which RPGs covered in my site are US-released and which are fan translated, then click here.

Back to top

Q: Where can I purchase the English SNES cart for Sailor Moon RPG, Magic Knight Rayearth, Tenchi Muyo RPG, Seiken Densetsu 3, Tales of Phantasia...?

A: What you speak of does not exist! Those are fan translated RPGs. The only way you can play them is through emulation on your computer. Click here, that list will tell you exactly which RPGs in my site are fan translated. The *only* English SNES carts you can purchase are the RPGs that were officially released in the US.

Q: Do you provide @fantasyanime.com e-mail hosting?

A: No.

Q: Do you still have the midi that used to play on your main page? Can you send it to me?

A: Click here to download it. ^_~

Webmaster Questions

Q: I want to advertise on FantasyAnime. Can you put up my ad?

A: Click "Advertise on this site" on the main page's Google ad. However, that's the only place I have an ad; I refuse to add more.

Back to top

Q: Can you link to my site?

A: Sure! ^_^ The link won't go up immediately but it will eventually.

Back to top

Q: Can I link to FantasyAnime?

A: Yes! Please do! Feel free to use one of these while you're at it. Oh, and it would be best to link directly to my fantasyanime.com main page rather than my individual subsites, because I tend to change their URLs.

Back to top

Q: Can I copy some of your stuff?

A: Yes you may. All I ask in return are two things: (1) please post a link back to my site (preferably with one of these) and (2) please don't get greedy with the amount of stuff you copy.

Back to top

Q: Can you affiliate with my site?

A: No.

Back to top

Q: Can I help you with your site?

A: No, but I appreciate the offer.

Q: Will you host my site?

A: No.

Problem Questions

Q: How come when I patch your ROM with your English patch, I get nothing but a black screen when I try to play it?

A: That's what happens when the incorrect English patch is applied. Check to make sure what you're applying. If you need assistance with patching, then go here. Btw, other people created the English patches, not me.

Q: I followed your renaming directions, but I still can't get the Genesis SRM game saves to work.

A: Depending on the emulator, sometimes it can be tricky to get the Genesis SRM game saves to work. The best thing to do is, once the game save is copied to your ROMs folder, rename both your Genesis game and the SRM game save to a new name. Note that the Genesis emulator resaves the SRM game save upon closing, so make sure that the SRM game save you're working with is fresh from the zip file, untouched by your Genesis emulator.

Q: I installed WinAmp and the game music plugins, but I get a "cannot open file" error when I attempt to open the songs.

A: From the "cannot open file" window, choose "Select the program from a list" and choose WinAmp. From that point on, songs of that format will always open with WinAmp.

Back to top

Q: The sound with your Flash videos skips a lot!

A: Skipping sound means your computer is having a hard time playing the video. If you have other programs open, close them. If you were viewing the "full screen" version, view the original sized version.

Back to top

Q: Your Flash videos are extremely choppy!

A: You probably have a slow computer. I think you need at least a P3 800 Mhz processor with 192 MB of RAM to run them efficiently (and for Macs at least a G4).

Back to top

Q: How come all of your zip files are defective?

A: You're still using 56k aren't you. Your problem has nothing to do with me. The zip files are corrupt because your browser doesn't want to download them 100%. The best thing to do is to download the file over and over until it downloads completely.

Back to top

Q: How come when I copy the direct web addresses to some of your files I get an 'access denied' error.

A: Because that's called bandwidth stealing - you thief! I have a block on hot-linking.

Emulation Questions

Q: I can download games from your site? How?

A: Yep! Every game (except FF7) can be downloaded. You do so by going to the Downloads section of the given shrine and download the file under "Emulation". Then you need an emulator to run it. Each system has its own emulator. For example, you need a Super Nintendo emulator to play Super Nintendo games, a Genesis emulator to play Genesis games, etc. I have my video game emulators right here. This whole process of playing video games on your computer is called video game emulation. To learn more about it and to learn how to use the emulators, go to my emulation help site.

Q: What's emulation?
Q: How do I use emulators?

A: Go to my emulation help site! ^_^

Q: How come several of your ROMs aren't prepatched with the English patch?

A: It is the wish of fan translators for ROMs not to be distributed prepatched with their English patch. Their translations are years worth of tedious, profit-less work; respecting their wishes is the least we can do for them. Besides, auto-patching with Zsnes and Snes9X is a much more efficient method of patching.

Q: Aren't ROMs illegal?

A: A greatly respected female gamer by the name of Daria answers this question better than I could:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q. All video game ROMs are illegal.
A. I'm sure some of you might find this point confusing, even thinking to yourself "But I thought it was okay if I owned an original cartridge." I'm sorry to burst your bubble but that is not the case. All video game ROMs are considered pirated software and are therefore illegal to own, copy and/or distribute. There are a few exceptions for games which are considered public domain, but they all suck so I don't have any of them on this site.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q. So why the hell did you make a ROM site if you knew it was "wrong"?
A. First off I never said it was wrong, only that it was illegal. I personally do not see ROMs as a threat to the gaming industry. However I do see countless examples of how companies like Nintendo, SquareSoft, Capcom, Enix (etc.) not only benefit from the ROM community, but actively use it to their advantage while screaming "Copyright infringement" to their corporate lawyers.
Example: Do you really think square would have released all those anthologies of the early Final Fantasy games and Crono Trigger if they hadn't seen how popular they had become amongst the ROM kiddies? Or how about Dragon Warrior 7, the American market hasn't laid eyes on a Dragon Quest game since the original Nintendo and suddenly Enix decides that it might just be profitable to release the 7th installment here without rhyme nor reason? I think not. That kind of hypocrisy pisses me off.
Besides, just because I play ROMs on my pc doesn't mean that I don't shell out hard earned cash for the real thing. Personally I'm buying a Gameboy Advance this Christmas just so I can buy games like "Breath of Fire", "Lufia" and "Shining Force" but wait a sec. I have all those games on my site why in the world would I want to spend money on something I've already played? Because I love those games and I want to own them. And I never would have wanted them if I hadn't played the ROMs first. Quite frankly video games are too expensive to buy blindly. So actually in a weird twisted way I'm making money for Nintendo (Sega and Capcom) by downloading these "illegal" games. It's sort of a parasite-host relationship really.
Now I'm not advocating breaking the law. So if you feel uncomfortable downloading these games without legal permission then don't.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q. So what your saying is that your site is illegal?
A. Well not exactly. See the copyright laws are specifically written to protect the developer or artist from losing either real or projected money (meaning you can't sell their product and you can't cost them money by offering their product for free when people would otherwise have had to pay for it.) and the argument is iffy as to whether or not my site violates that law. On one hand neither myself nor anyone else makes any money off this site. I have absolutely no advertisements or banners nor do I get paid for the number of hits my site generates. On the other hand it is questionable as to whether or not the distribution of outdated games cost the owners any profit. Do we generate sales or detract from them? It's the whole Napster situation all over again.
Web Design Questions
Q: How did you make your site? What programs do you use?
A: Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator/ Dreamweaver/ Flash/ After Effects and Swift 3D. Even though I use Dreamweaver, I tend to type up most of the code by hand. I heavily use CSS to style my pages. I use Photoshop for practically all of my image editing. I mainly use Illustrator for creating my high-res desktop wallpapers. And (obviously) I use Flash for flash, and Swift 3D for 3D flash. I use After Effects to edit and create all my movie clips, even though I shouldn't because it's not meant to be used as a video editor, heh.
Back to top
Q: I want to use Photoshop and those other programs you use, but they're way too expensive! I'm poor.
A: I don't blame you. Photoshop costs like, what, $900 these days? Fortunately, the open source community has given us free alternatives to Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, movie editors, etc. (but not Flash). I have everything listed in my links section.
Back to top
Q: Can I ask you questions about web design or how you made your website?
A: I don't mind answering quick questions or directing you to helpful resources, but if you want to ask me major questions like "How do I make a website?" or "How do I use Flash?" then I'll have to decline. I have some helpful web design and Flash resources in my links section.
Misc Questions
Q: What does the ' >_< ' face mean?
A: Don't you watch Southpark? It's the famous Cartman face. It expresses anger and/or frustration in a silly not-so-serious way. Like so: "Bah, the dog pissed in my room again! >_< "
Q: I love your site!
