Size: 1.29 MB, Version: 1.52, Homepage: Click here Snes9x's cpu is written in assembly, and its graphics engine and SPC700 engine are well optimized. Both versions sport very nice GUIs. Snes9x supports graphics modes 0-7, 2 joysticks, transparencies, Super FX support and has real time save/loading. This is one of the best SNES emulators around! |

Size: 847 KB, Version: 1.51, Homepage: Click here (ZSNES) Click here (ZSNES WIP) ZSNES emulates all SNES screen modes as well as add/sub transparencies in 16 bit graphics mode, mosaic effects, Super FX emulation (Star Fox, etc), DSP1 emulation (Mario Kart, etc), C4 emulation (MegaMan X2/3), real time saving, and a really great GUI which lets you configure the emulator to your heart's content. It has interpolated sound, supports the snes mouse, and has a slew of other options as well including movie recording and modem to modem netplay! |

Size: 1.19 MB, Version: 1.40, Homepage: Click here This incredible NES emulator lived up to its name upon its very first release. It was written in C++ and it is perfect for games requiring precise timing (like Marble Madness). With support for an incredible amount of mappers, it outdoes some of the best NES emulators around. It also supports NSFs, the famicom disk system, save states, IPS patching, battery-saved ram, NES movie files, and many VS-Unisystem games. Finally, it emulates four non-standard controllers (including the Power Pad). |

Size: 1.55 MB, Version: 2.1.4, Homepage: Click here FCEUX is an open-source, portable NES/Famicom emulator based on Bero's FCE source code. It has excellent sound emulation and support for a wide variety of in-cart expansion hardware ("mappers"). PPU/CPU timing is good. Several VS Unisystem games are supported well. Interesting features include emulation of the Zapper and VS Unisystem light gun via the mouse, and "authentic" Game Genie emulation. The Famicom Disk System is also emulated. An NSF player is built in. Extra features include save states and screenshot saving. TCP/IP network play is supported, with a few caveats. |

Size: 264 KB, Version: 1.12 Homepage: Click here A fast, accurate and non-bloated Gameboy emulator. It runs most games, includes GameGenie cheats, has configurable keys and screen colors, snapshots, and does not require DirectX, OpenGL or SDL. Additionally, it supports Super Gameboy and Gameboy Color games including newer games which don't run on other GBC emulators. This is by far the best Gameboy and Gameboy Color emulator around. NOTE: If BGB is slow or awkward for you, then I recommend Visual Boy Advance below, as it also supports Gameboy and Gameboy Color. |
DOWNLOAD |
Size: 597 KB, Version: 1.7.2, Homepage: Click here This emulator focuses on compatibility. Some of its good features include GBA sound (including Direct Sound), 100% ARM and THUMB emulation, and emulated BIOS functions. It requires DirectX 7+ and the Windows desktop must be in 32-bit mode. An excellent emulator! However, even though it can also emulate Gameboy and Gameboy Color, that doesn't automatically mean it emulates them 'good'. I still highly recommend BGB in that department. Visual Boy Advance should only be used for Gameboy Advance games. |

Size: 383 KB, Version: 3.64, Homepage: Click here I would say Kega Fusion is the #1 Genesis emulator. In addition to Genesis it also emulates Sega CD, 32X, Sega CD+32X (the only emulator that can do this), Sega Master System, Game Gear, Sega SG-1000 and SC-3000. Like Gens it has high compatibility and good speed. 2xSai filter support is a separate download from the homepage. |

Size: 2.66 MB, Version: Release 7, Homepage: Click here Gens/GS is a version of the famous "Gens" emulator. The main goal of Gens/GS is to clean up the source code and combine features from various forks of Gens, as well as improving portability to other platforms. Gens/GS has a high compatibility rate and good speed. It also has many nice features including the usual screen renders, Sega CD support, and 32X support. It has a few neat features that Kega Fusion doesn't have. |

Size: 573 KB, Version: 2.14, Homepage: Click here The great and mighty Genesis/Sega CD/32X emulator! I'm keeping Gens here just for archival purposes, as it is old and outdated. Kega Fusion and Gens/GS are what you should be using. |
Size: 264 KB - Contains the Sega CD BIOS files that are required for booting up US, European and Japanese games on Gens and Kega Fusion. |
|
Size: 447 KB - 1.95 KB - Contains the 32X BIOS files required to boot 32X games on Gens. |

Size: 745 KB, Version: 0.73, Homepage: Click here Zoop's MEKA emulates the Sega Master System, GameGear, SG-1000 and SC-3000 (the last 2 are computers). It has a KILLER GUI, supports a very wide range of games, has sound support, and supports many other 'extras' such as joystick support, light gun emulation, save states, and so much more! |

Size: 538 KB, Version: 011 Alpha 2, Homepage: Click here Offers great compatibility and is easy to use. It lacks the fancy features we're used to with PSX/N64 emulation, like high-res 3D rendering and such. But hey, it's better than nothing! |
Size: 447 KB - Saturn emulators need this in order to boot US games, except SSF. |
|
Size: 1.67 MB - Saturn emulators need this as well in order to boot games, except SSF. |
|
Size: 1.74 MB - Another set of Saturn BIOS files, containing US, Euro, UK, and Jap. SSF doesn't need this. |
|
MagicEngine |
Size: 438 KB, Version: n/a, Homepage: Click here < Download Outstanding TurboGrafx16/PC Engine emulator that features full HuCard, SuperGrafx, CD-ROM, Super CD-ROM and Arcade Card emulation! It is, however, a demo version which costs $29 US to register. This demo version is limited to 5 minutes of play time per session. MagicEngine is the #1 emulator for TG16 and TG16-CD (PCECD). |
DOWNLOAD |
Size: 1.13 MB, Version: 2.45, Homepage: Click here This is a good free alternative to MagicEngine. Ootake has good game compatibility with HuCard, SuperGrafx, CD-ROM, Super CD-ROM and Arcade Card emulation. It is a Japanese emulator translated to English so expect the language to be a little quirky. |

Size: 116 KB, Version: 1.7.3, Homepage: n/a If you're asking yourself "Wonderswan? What the heck is that?" It's Japan's competition to Gameboy Color & Gameboy Advance. It didn't get too popular. This emulator has a good CPU timing, the sound is really good and it supports Joystick. It doesn't offer many features, but it's the best that's available. I only have this emulator here for Makai Toushi Saga (the Final Fantasy Legend remake). |

Size: 1.98 MB, Version: 1.6, Homepage: Click here This emulator is generally considered to be the #1 for N64. Unlike other emulators, Project64 already conveniently comes bundled with the best plug-ins. This means Project64 is ready to use at peak capacity right after installation. |

Size: 548 KB, Version: 1.7.0, Homepage: Click here ePSXe is a PSX emulator that takes advantage of the exciting plugin system. It requires a good 3D card. Right now it is the best freeware Playstation emulator available--that is, if you're patient enough to work with the plugin system (it can be annoying). Remember, Pete's Plug-ins are the best for ePSXe! You can download a bundle of the best plug-ins further down. |

Size: 784 KB, Version: 1.13, Homepage: Click here Don't feel like fussing with ePSXe's plug-in system? Do you want a decent PSX emulator that just works out of the box and is friendly with slower computers? Then pSX is for you! It's a simple emulator; it doesn't have any of the fancy features and neato 3D rendering that ePSXe
has. |
Size: 236 KB - Both ePSXe and pSX need this in order to boot games. |
|
Size: 1.39 MB - To save you even more trouble, I put the best plugins for ePSXe in a zip file for you! :) This contains the following: Pete's Soft GPU 1.18b, Pete's PSX GPUs 1.77, Pete's OpenGL2 PSX GPU 2.9, Pete's OpenGL PSX GPU 1.78, Eternal SPU 1.41, Pete's CDR Plugin 1.4 |

Size: 535 KB, Version: 1.60, Homepage: Click here This is a fast CPS1/2 emulator. It has many good features including netplay. The only drawback is that it generally only plays NeoGeo and Capcom games. However I definitely prefer Kawaks over Mame for its many nifty features, especially its screen renders. It emulates Dungeons & Dragons arcade beautifully. |

Size: 9.58 MB, Version: 0.138.4, Homepage: Click here About Mame: MAME, perfectly fitting its acronym, is the most compatible and capable multiple arcade machine emulator. There is a large community of contributors working persistently to add support for more games. Currently about 3,000 games are supported, and development continues actively. Everything from early vector and bitmap games (Asteroids, Space Invaders, Pac-Man) to modern, 'heavy-processing' games (Mortal Kombat II, Cruis'n USA) are supported. The original core of MAME is for DOS; it's updated every month. |
Size: 931 KB - Both Kawaks and MameUI need this in order to play NeoGeo games. |
|
Size: 368 KB - Older versions of Kawaks and MameUI may require this. (Rename it to "neogeo.zip") |

You might want to read this article first for an overview. Bannister.org has nearly all of the best Mac video game emulators. Then you can get the rest at Pure Mac.
THE JAILBREAK METHOD
iOS has all the video game emulators for the usual assortment of classic systems (SNES, Genesis, PS1, etc.). However, you have to jailbreak your phone to obtain them, because Apple doesn't allow emulators in the App Store. Jailbreaking your Apple product is NOT illegal; it just voids your warranty. However, you can just restore it before you send it out for warranty work. :) Want to give it a try? On your Apple product, visit Jailbreakme.com. That website will perform the jailbreaking and give you access to the pirate App Store.
THE LEGAL METHOD
Don't want to jailbreak your Apple product? You're not totally screwed. A few classic RPGs have been officially ported over and they're available legit in the App Store for $2.99 US each. Those RPGs are: Final Fantasy 1, FInal Fantasy 2, Shining Force, and Phantasy Star 2.
In the Android Market, perform a search for "yongzh". That's the author of all the best video game emulators on Google Android, and searching for him will bring all of them up for you. Enjoy Game Gear/SMS, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Genesis, NES, SNES, and even Playstation 1! You can choose to download the free version or the full version for $3.99 US. The free version has all the features of the full version, except the ability to save your progress.
