This is the fastest SNES emulator in existence. It features all SNES screen modes as well as add/sub transparencies in 16 bit graphics mode, mosaic effects, Super FX emulation (Star Fox, etc), DSP1 emulation (Mario Kart, etc), C4 emulation (MegaMan X2/3), real time saving, and a really great GUI which lets you configure the emulator to your heart's content. It has interpolated sound, and it will really blow you away! It also supports the snes mouse, and has a slew of other options as well including movie recording and modem to modem netplay! This is the SNES emulator of choice!

Snes9x's cpu is written in assembly, and its graphics engine and SPC700 engine are well optimized. Both versions sport very nice GUIs. Snes9x supports graphics modes 0-7, 2 joysticks, transparencies, Super FX support and has real time save/loading. This is now one of the best SNES emulators around, and it stands only second to ZSNES in terms of compatibility.

This incredible NES emulator lived up to its name upon its very first release. It was written in C++ and it is perfect for games requiring precise timing (like Marble Madness). With support for an incredible amount of mappers, it outdoes some of the best NES emulators around. It also supports NSFs, the famicom disk system, save states, IPS patching, battery-saved ram, NES movie files, and many VS-Unisystem games. Finally, it emulates four non-standard controllers (including the Power Pad).

FCEUX

FCEUX is an open-source, portable NES/Famicom emulator based on Bero's FCE source code. It has excellent sound emulation and support for a wide variety of in-cart expansion hardware ("mappers"). PPU/CPU timing is good. Several VS Unisystem games are supported well. Interesting features include emulation of the Zapper and VS Unisystem light gun via the mouse, and "authentic" Game Genie emulation. The Famicom Disk System is also emulated. An NSF player is built in. Extra features include save states and screenshot saving. TCP/IP network play is supported, with a few caveats.

A fast, accurate and non-bloated Gameboy emulator. It runs most games, includes GameGenie cheats, has configurable keys and screen colors, snapshots, and does not require DirectX, OpenGL or SDL. Additionally, it supports Super Gameboy and Gameboy Color games including newer games which don't run on other GBC emulators. This is by far the best Gameboy and Gameboy Color emulator around.

Visual Boy Advance

This emulator focuses on compatibility. Some of its good features include GBA sound (including Direct Sound), 100% ARM and THUMB emulation, and emulated BIOS functions. It requires DirectX 7+ and the Windows desktop must be in 32-bit mode. An excellent emulator! However, even though it can also emulate Gameboy and Gameboy Color, that doesn't automatically mean it emulates them 'good'. I still highly recommend BGB in that department. Visual Boy Advance should only be used for Gameboy Advance games.

I would say Kega Fusion is the #1 Genesis emulator. In addition to Genesis it also emulates Sega CD, 32X, Sega CD+32X (the only emulator that can do this), Sega Master System, Game Gear, Sega SG-1000 and SC-3000. Like Gens it has high compatibility and good speed. 2xSai filter support is a separate download from the homepage.

If you're asking yourself "Wonderswan? What the heck is that?" It's Japan's competition to Gameboy Color & Gameboy Advance. It didn't get too popular. This emulator has a good CPU timing, the sound is really good and it supports Joystick. It doesn't offer many features, but it's the best that's available. I only have this emulator here for Makai Toushi Saga (the Final Fantasy Legend remake).

This is a fast CPS1/2 emulator. It has many good features including netplay. The only drawback is that it generally only plays NeoGeo and Capcom games. However I definitely prefer Kawaks over Mame for its many nifty features, especially its screen renders. It emulates Dungeons & Dragons arcade beautifully.
